Can you tell us a little bit about your playlist?

I had so much fun creating this playlist! It is definitely a snapshot of artists that I am constantly inspired by these days! Some of the artists I know personally and the rest from afar. I admire this entire playlist group of womxn, GNC, and LGBTQIA artists so deeply and I feel like every time I listen to one of these artists’ songs, I learn something new — if it’s not about songwriting or this craft, it is about life and the certain struggles or joys we all face. I also realized while creating this playlist is that there is just so much amazing music out there being created day by day and that is so awesome to see!

What should we do while listening to it?

The playlist includes a lot of different music, with up and down tempos, so really anything! I listen to the playlist when I am just hanging out, when I am cooking, cleaning, or getting ready to go out, I personally love to listen to this playlist on my headphones when I am walking around NYC!

What’s your favorite thing about yourself today?

That is a good question and a question I think anyone should ask themselves daily! I would say for having to wake up super early to get to my day job at 8am today, my hair is little pretty darn good! But besides that, I would say I am super happy with how productive I have been the last few weeks. I have been using my weekends as work days to work on new music and do all the things I couldn’t get done in the week.

I honestly could not imagine doing anything else.

What’s been the hardest thing about pursuing a music career?

I would say the hardest thing about pursuing a music career, and something that many people not in music do not realize, is all the hard work you have to put into this industry. I feel if you really want to succeed in the music industry, you will always need be working in all aspects of the career, not just the fun music-creating part of it but also the business side of it. There’s always so much to be done before you play a show or your album is released out in the world. I think keeping up with all that work can be draining and to be honest, exhausting, but at the same time, it is so exciting and fun! I wouldn’t be doing it if I couldn’t find at least some fun in my day to day activities as an artist.

Why do you do it?

I honestly could not imagine doing anything else besides music! I am truly at my happiest when I am creating, singing, and performing. Over the last several years, I have learned so much about myself and I realized I don’t want to spend another minute not being able to do what I truly love and what I know I am meant to do in my life. I also learned what it truly means to be an artist/songwriter (it is not all just creative!) and I actually really enjoy that. I love being able to have different hats in my career. And I know that in order to get to where I want to be in my career, I have to put in the work (and more importantly work smart) and to have this “just keep going” state of mind.

Believe in yourself.

What advice do you have for other artists?

The best advice I would give to other artists is to trust and believe in yourself. If you do not first believe in yourself, how will anyone else? It is kind of a “well duh” piece of advice but I think it is so important and I think having any sort of creative career, self-doubt can play a huge role and act as your worst enemy at times but no one should let self-doubt get in their way.

Who’s one artist on your playlist we need to start following immediately, and why?

It’s so hard to choose! All of these artists are amazing but I would say everyone should follow Nilu immediately! I actually recently connected with her via Instagram (ah thank you technology!) and not only is she is so sweet and kind but she is such a talented singer, songwriter, and alternative/indie artist. I instantly gravitated towards her music after I heard one of her songs on Pretty Little Liars.
